Area schools continue to use the Preserve at Lakewood for regular cross-country practices and events. Schools such as Our Lady of the Rosary use the site weekly for both middle and high school students. The ample parking and the trails, such as the well-known “Spaghetti Loop” and nature areas make the site perfect for races and visitors.
The school’s team coach said, “we wrapped up at the end of October, our boys and girls both won the state championship for their divisions! They really enjoy running at Lakewood and the challenging course is really helping them become tougher runners.”
Taking advantage of the well-maintained terrain, Upstate Ultra Running Club held weekly practices on-site again this year, and expanded to 4 signature race events on the Preserve at Lakewood property. The last of which, called The Longest Night Run will take place on December 16th, where runners will be challenged with timed loops in races ranging from a half marathon to a marathon to the full 50 miles (the all-night option). Also, 130 youth runners participated in a 3-mile race on September 21st organized by Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School
